St. Kitts and Nevis National Carnival King of the Bands 2014/2015 & 2016/2017

St. Kitts and Nevis National Carnival King of the Bands 2014/2015 & 2016/2017

Introduce yourself to the public.

My name is Romaine Belgrove. I sent in the winning slogan for Sugar Mas 45 which was… Feel the rhythm positive vibes for Sugar Mas 45.

As far back as you can remember, when was the first time you participated in a troupe or carnival event?

The first time I played mas was many years ago in primary school and then had a very long break since that as I was a very shy person in my teenage years. I found the courage again in 2005 when I joined Phunn Makers troupe but moved over to being a very active member in Banker’s Mas Camp from 2006 until present. So that’s 11 years now with that mas camp.

You won Sugar Mas 45 King of the Bands. Can you tell us about the theme and what you depicted?

For Sugar Mas 2016-17, I depicted the Circus as my costume and this was my 3rd time playing as King of the Bands.

Have you ever participated as king of a band before?

I won 2 titles, the first in 2014-15 and the 2nd in 2016-17. The first time I won I played as a CPL player.  I depicted a king sugar costume the 2nd year but didn’t win the title that year.

You also participated in the first Mr.  GQ.  How was your experience?

I entered the first ever Mr. GQ show in 2015 where I placed 2nd runner up in that show. For me the experience was a very great one as for many years I’ve been trying to enter the Mr Kool show in Nevis since we didn’t have a show like that here in St. Kitts but was unsuccessful because of my age.

I went through the whole show without a chaperone as I was the last contestant to be given the green light to enter the show but I think I did well but could’ve been better if I had more help and all in all I would do it again if I had the chance.

What other accomplishments do you wish to share with the public?

I’ve been modelling for a couple years well now and I started out doing freelance modelling then joined the Identity Group and went on to join a group headed by Julie Riley and am now I’m presently with the Movado Modelling Agency.

Apart from all the fun and excitement I am also a very hard worker. I’m presently employed by the Solid Waste Management Corporation for 13 years now. Recently I got married on August 6th 2016 and opened my own tyre shop in October 2016 also.
