Tunka Abdurama, Master of Creative Arts
Tunka Abdurama was born in the vibrant and enterprising community of Newtown on the island of St. Kitts.
His birth name is Vaneco Hendrickson and as a youth he was popularly known for his dancing. He was one of the best dancers on the island. From the time Tunka appeared at any function, he would dance from the door to the bar incorporating elaborate footwork.
He was the life of the party and attracted a crowd anywhere he went as he would also do splits and somersaults. Eventually, he became a trained dancer. Tunka is also a Master of Ceremonies.
Before travelling abroad, Tunka emceed for shows featuring top entertainers such as Sparrow, Kitchener and Jackie Opel. He has performed in various Caribbean countries including Jamaica, Martinique, Trinidad, Puerto Rico, Aruba, and the Virgin Islands. Well known in Canada, and the USA, Tunka is the embodiment of a versatile performer.
Tunka has entertained audiences with his balancing feats, juggling and other magician acts. Other performances include creative dances incorporating lively Caribbean and Latin rhythms.
Throughout the years, he has engaged in many daring performances such as:
- Bottle dance: He would walk and dance on a bed of broken bottles without being injured. He even did this, while he would carry someone on his shoulder.
- Sword Swallowing A sword would pass through the mouth and down to the stomach.
- Bed of Nails: Members of the audience would be invited to stand on him as he lay on a bed of nails.
- Fire limbo: Tunka and his dancers would limbo under a flaming rod.
- Fire eating: Tunka would swallow small flames and spew thunder fire flames as much as 15 feet
Tunka has performed for thousands of people at various events and has also entertained famous celebrities, sportsmen and women, actors, dignitaries, businessmen and women from around the world.
